I was born and raised in a typical Indian Persian home with traditional punitive parenting methods passed down from generation to generation. I’d never given parenting a lot of thought over the years but I took it for granted that when I did have kids I would parent like I was parented.

Until I stumbled upon the concept of gentle parenting some years ago on a lunch break at work. I clicked on a link to an article by L.R.Knost.

I felt like Alice in Wonderland down the rabbit hole. I discovered a different way of life and something moved into place.

The more I learned about it the more I became convinced that this was the life I wanted for my children.

I share this as The Gentle Mamma completes three years.

This quote was my first post three years ago.

It remains one of my favourite quotes.

LR Knost has been my first and one of my biggest gentle parenting mentor.

To her I'll forever be grateful.

*And* mental healthcare workers need to be compens *And* mental healthcare workers need to be compensated fairly. Mental healthcare is extremely taxing. Therapists need to make a living too. $200 an hour might be what it costs to run a private therapy practice. Therapists should be able to charge their worth. It should be covered by universal healthcare.

My children built a forge and they’ve been using My children built a forge and they’ve been using scraps of metal and found objects to make crafts.

We don’t do a lot of technology aside from family movie nights and FaceTiming friends, and I continue to be grateful for that choice because of the super cool things my kids end up doing with their free time.

They come up with these concepts on their own and I stand back and witness in awe as they work creatively and problem-solve their way through it.

“Mom, I’m going to build a fire” has become as commonly heard as “Mom, I’m going to use the hot glue gun” these days, and I love it 💖
