Kids can learn about the harshness of the world without us imposing it on them as some kind of life lesson.

The valentines these lovely souls made for each ot The valentines these lovely souls made for each other are just the sweetest. They know each other so well and are good friends.

✨

Valentine’s Day has always been about family for us; homemade treats and handmade cards, boardgames, family walks, and backyard fires.

✨

This year was extremely cold, plus the pandemic, but we stayed cozy and ate chocolate and made some memories despite this strange time. 🌸💖🌹

This is such important reframing! Chattel slavery This is such important reframing! Chattel slavery is part of *white* history. The people who respond to Black History Month by saying “When is white history month?!?” probably wouldn’t like what they’d learn 😬 Via @anyadoula_htx

“I love this reframing of Black History. I no longer wish to relive the horrors and atrocities every single year anymore. It is important to know, but we also have to watch how we “celebrate” our culture and history. Focusing on the harm done to black folks is not celebrating. It keeps white folks centered. It keeps us focused on pain and a sense of inferiority. That is not who we are. That is not who our ancestors were. No!

I choose to celebrate who we are in spite of white supremacist delusion. I choose to celebrate the brilliance and innovation of a people, MY people who have made magnificent contributions to the WORLD in spite of centuries long atrocities against us, that are still waged against us.” Original Post via @nikkiblak

“I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ‘Letter from a Birmingham Jail’ (1963)
